Conflict

I don't know why people get so upset by my frequent desire to end my presence on the Internet. It seems to only cause fights.

Of course I'm referring to the previous comment war in the last post I made. I think I started it by being unsure of intentions, and then both sides of the argument escalated. I've looked over the comments again, and I realized something. Neither side was trying to offend the other, and both did. I know both of you, and as best as I can read into it, neither side actually meant to attack and yet both sides got offended.

Friends fighting is the story of my life, and quite frankly I'm sick of it... Everyone knows where I stand and the purpose of this journal is to keep it that way. I'm sorry if anyone's feelings were hurt but I've gone over and over the starting of that conversation and I just see a lot of misinterpretation (from myself included).

And Paul, we should get together. But as Andrea said, finding time to do things is hard. Don't think I don't wanna hang out, but... well, you know how school is.

All right, I actually had a pretty decent day today. It's nice that 2/22 doesn't get to me anymore.

Though I must say, I think I've reached a new level of pathetic when I am relieved that a class is cancelled because it means I have more time to do homework for other classes. That just isn't right.

On a related note, I have 18 credits this semester... However at the end of next week I'll have missed a grand total of 14 classes in 6 weeks. That's over two classes a week, and only ONE of them was due to me skipping out. True I ducked out early a couple times, but that doesn't count as skipping to me. Everything else was either due to illness of professor, or the prof being out of town, or power outages.

I had a really good weekend. Took Andrea to get her V-Day present, a bear from Build a Bear at Mayfair. She got a green one and named it Clover, it's cute.

Anyway I don't have a whole lot to say other than I feel like I'm gonna fail the physics major entirely. This semester is NOT going well...

Back to the grindstone.

V-Day

Well, today marks my first Valentine's Day EVER that I've been with someone. I'm really looking forward to tonight. Should be fun.

Had a decent weekend, except for the E&M test I tried to do. Ralph and I went to visit the Minors on Saturday - it had been way too long since that was done. We then went to Milwaukee PC, and invited Jerod but he couldn't come.

And he's not gonna be a father anymore... Sorry about that, Jerod.

Milw PC was okay, spent a couple hours on Warcraft... and I hate Gnomes. We ate at the Forum and then I had to go home because I had a pretty bad headache. Ended up staying up later Sunday night than I did Saturday. Once again, I hate Gnomes.

Anyway Sunday I tried to do a test which nearly blew up my brain. Turns out we got an extension on it anyway though, so it's okay that I only did 1 problem out of 5.

Tonight I'm staying here for V-Day, and next weekend Andrea and I are gonna go see Dwayne in a play. I hope to start having LAN parties at Ralph's soon, too... just as soon as I get my damn SOUND CARD WORKING!!! I'm having issues disabling the onboard audio (and yes I did it in the BIOS but the drivers won't load for the new card for some reason).

Still need to figure out the housing situation for next year.

Oh, and incidentally, I find it funny when people make comments on disturbing, unhappy, depressive, or scary posts without even touching on the subject of the post they are commenting on.

Not that I know anyone that does that.

Also, because of my unexpected free time, I updated my current Schedule under the links to the left.

I might temporarily take the Views link out soon, I don't know. I really don't think I'm gonna have time to write anything for that this semester.

Powering Down

Well I didn't get a lot of sleep tonight but it turned out not to matter.

This morning I went to take my Matrices test. A few minutes before the test began, I notices the lights dimmed and the heater next to me turned off for a few seconds. This happened again a moment later and I determined the power was failing.

Sure enough, after we started the test, the power went out. We still had to finish the test, though. In the dark.

I wasn't sure if it was just my building or everywhere, and it turned out to be the whole campus. I met up with Andrea and went to my next class, which needed power because it is an IT class (sort of) and presentations were starting today.

So we went to get lunch, and upon returning I actually found a parking spot in one of the hardest lots to get one. A person got into a car next to me and told me classes had been cancelled university wide. I didn't want to trust a fellow student on an issue like that, so I went to the science building and talked to one of the Physcis professors. He called the department and confirmed that the Chancellor had cancelled all classes and professors were not allowed to hold class under any circumstance. Now, my night class had already been cancelled because Dr. Boukahil is in California. But this means I don't have my lab class today. I'd be happy about this, except the prof is gonna want us to make it up on our own time now. I know he will, because he himself had cancelled two lectures a week ago and wants us to come in to make up for his absence.

Do you know the method of telling everyone classes were cancelled? Email. Yes, the power was out across the whole campus (including the computer labs) so CLEARLY students would be able to read their email. I mean, that makes perfect sense, right? Sigh.

Incidentally, the professor I talked to informed me that the power went out due to a squirrel getting into a main transformer that serves the campus and a big part of the city. Roast squirrel meat, anyone?

The up side of this is that I am staying over here in WW tonight, and now I have a TON of time to get all my homework done that I didn't have before. At least I'll be able to play catch-up.

In other news, I have acquired (through my own secret means) Office 2003 Professional for my new PC. I still need FrontPage, though... Jason, I'd love to take that copy of XP, thank you.

Not a whole lot else to report, but at least it's been an interesting day.

Dawn of an Era

Well, as of last night, my new computer was official born. I am actually posting from it right now.

I loaded Windows 2000 onto it (thanks Paul!) and it actually worked. Windows Update ran and everything. So I spent all last night downloading updates and installing drivers. I'm a long way from finished installing all my old programs on this machine, but thankfully I have a folder called "Program Install Files" on my external HDD which houses all the install files I've collected since my last drive format. I should be able to blast through that in a few hours. Of course, I'm still left without MS Office due to the fact that the copy of XP I have is only allowed to be registered to one processor, and it's already registered to my laptop (it gives you about 30 free runs of the program before it makes you register or shut down).

New Computer Stats:
CPU - Pentium 4 2.4 GHz
RAM - 1 GB SDRAM
HDD - 120 GB
Optical - Dual Layer DVD Burner 16x12x4
Video - 128 MB
Sound - 4 Channel
USB - 6 1.1 Ports, 4 2.0 Ports
Floppy Drive - 1.44 MB 3.5 inch

The case is green and black with blue lighting. I am quite pleased at how fast everything is running (even though I know it will get slower as I fill the hard drive up). It's nice to finally have a computer in this house that can utilize our broadband Internet connection to its fullest. And it only cost me $500 to build myself!

Speaking of fast Internet, I did install one thing that will take full advantage of it... World of Warcraft. I just downloaded the whole first patch in 3 minutes! It took Andrea's computer about 45 minutes, if that's any point of reference. But then again, that's on DLK Internet (for those of you who don't live in Whitewater - that sucks).

Not only did I get this computer, but apparently my friend Matt is getting a new computer and joining our server as well.

In other news, not much is happening academically. School is school, and I feel like it's all I ever do. With 18 credits, I don't wanna say I'm drowning but I might be by spring break. Especially with my Electricity and Magnetism II class. I'll try to get my updated schedule up soon.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, isn't it? I'm actually looking forward to it for the first time in 22 years. But then again, this is also the first time I'll have someone to be with :) Andrea has been sending me an ecard every day with a different saying on it, it's quite sweet of her. I just hope my idea for her is as good.

Anyway, for now I venture into the world of Azeroth...
